Title: Slow and Steady? Not Quite. Flipping the “Turtle” in Forza Horizon 3’s Hot Wheels DLC

If there is one expansion in racing game history that completely threw reality out the window, it’s the Forza Horizon 3: Hot Wheels DLC. We’re talking massive orange tracks, gravity-defying loops, and boost pads that launch your car at breakneck speeds.

In my latest throwback Xbox gameplay session, I revisited the iconic Australian sky-tracks to tackle one of the most frustrating, hilarious, and satisfying achievements in the expansion: The Turtle.

For the uninitiated, “turtling” your car means flipping it completely upside down on its roof—usually resulting in a prompt reset. But doing it intentionally on a giant orange track? That takes a special kind of chaotic precision.

The Challenge: Reversing the Physics

Usually, the Hot Wheels tracks are designed to keep your car glued to the road via extreme downforce and booster pads. To flip a car entirely onto its back and slide like a turtle shell down the track, you have to fight the game’s natural physics engine.

I chose the perfect setting for this run: a massive corkscrew drop leading into a high-speed bank curve right over the Pacific Ocean.

The Build: Top-Heavy and Ridiculous

To get a car to turn turtle on command, you need something with a high center of gravity and absolutely zero aerodynamic stability.

  • The Car: The Reliant Supervan III (Yes, the infamous three-wheeled machine).

  • The Tune: Upgraded with a ridiculous motorcycle engine swap to give it way too much power for its own good, paired with soft, bouncy rally suspension.

The Execution: How It Went Down

In the gameplay clip, the chaos starts almost immediately after hitting a massive booster pad.

  • The Approach: Entering the high-speed corkscrew at over 120 MPH in a three-wheeled van is already a recipe for disaster.

  • The Trip: Right at the apex of the curve, I yanked the e-brake and aggressively cut the wheel into the wall. The physics engine couldn’t handle the sheer lack of stability, sending the Supervan into a violent barrel roll.

  • The “Turtle” Slide: Instead of resetting, the van landed perfectly flat on its roof. Thanks to the smooth, low-friction surface of the Hot Wheels track and the momentum from the booster, the car slithered upside down down the massive orange slide for a solid five seconds before finally grinding to a halt.

Forza Flashback Tip: If you are trying to recreate this classic stunt on your Xbox, make sure to turn off Damage and Tire Wear in the settings. Otherwise, your engine will completely seize up the moment your roof scrapes the track!

Watch the Madness

There is nothing quite like watching a neon-painted three-wheeled British van slide upside down at terrifying speeds over the ocean. Check out the full gameplay clip below to see the ultimate turtle run in action.

Are you still holding onto your FH3 disc just for the Hot Wheels tracks? What was your go-to car for the loops? Let’s reminisce in the comments!
