TitanFall 2 – boss mele

There are plenty of shooters that make you feel powerful, but nothing matches the absolute rush of adrenaline in Titanfall 2 when you and your Titan are perfectly in sync. While ripping through standard IMC Grunts and Stalkers is always a blast, the real test of a Pilot’s skill comes during the campaign’s iconic mercenary boss fights.
In my latest Xbox clip, I set out to capture the ultimate disrespect move: skipping the final weapon swap and taking down one of Apex Predators’ top mercenaries with a massive, robotic melee execution.
If you’ve been hunting for the legendary “Coup de Grâce” achievement on Xbox, or you just want to see a multi-ton mech get absolutely dismantled in third-person glory, here is how the play went down.
The Target: Ash and the Ronin Chassis
While you can pull this off on a few different bosses (like Slone at the end of the game), I chose Ash for this run. Fighting her Ronin titan is a frantic dance—she’s fast, she loves to teleport, and if you let her get close with her Broadsword, she will shred BT’s hull in seconds.
The goal was simple: whittle her health down to zero, trigger her “Doomed” state, and rush in for the physical beatdown before she could explode or back away.
The Strategy: Loadout Rotation
To safely get into melee range without getting chopped to pieces by Ash’s sword, I had to manage my Titan loadouts on the fly:
-
The Opener (Expedition Loadout): I started the fight using the default Expedition rifle and tracking rockets to strip away her shields from a safe distance.
-
The Trap (Scorch Loadout): As she aggressively dashed toward me, I quickly swapped to Scorch. I dropped an incendiary trap and lit up a Flame Shield right in her face, melting her remaining health bar down into the striped, yellow-and-black Doomed state.
-
The Closer (Ronin Loadout): The second her health flashed yellow, I switched to the Ronin loadout for that extra dash charge.
The Execution: Sweet, Sweet Metal Crunch
The transition from first-person combat to the cinematic execution animation is one of the best feelings in gaming.
-
The Dash: The moment Ash entered the Doomed state, she tried to phase-dash backward to regroup. I anticipated the move, used Ronin’s swift-dash to close the 6-meter gap instantly, and mashed the Right Stick (Melee) on my Xbox controller.
-
The Takedown: The camera instantly cut to third-person. BT grabbed her Titan’s sword arm, ripped it completely out of its socket, and drove our own Broadsword right through her cockpit hatch.
Boom. Achievement unlocked: Coup de Grâce.
Pilot Tip for Xbox Players: Be extremely careful when rushing in for a boss execution on higher difficulties (like Master). If you mistime your punch and the boss hits their melee just before yours lands, it can actually stagger or “melee pin” you, leaving you completely vulnerable to a devastating counter-attack. Wait for them to finish a swing, then lunge in!
