If you’ve been playing Zombie Army 4: Dead War on Xbox, you already know that the game loves to test your heart rate. But nothing—and I mean nothing—prepares you for the sheer panic of hearing that distinct, wet gurgling echo down a pitch-black, narrow tunnel.

In my latest Xbox gameplay capture, I ran face-first into one of the absolute worst-case scenarios in the game: a Blind Screamer cornered in a tight corridor, flanked by a horde of standard grunts.

Check out the gameplay breakdown below, along with a few tips on how I managed to pull off a flawless takedown without getting my eardrums shattered.

The Setup: Tunnel Vision and Tight Quarters

Tunnels in Zombie Army 4 are essentially a trap. You have zero room to strafe, your flashlight barely cuts through the gloom, and if a Screamer sets off its sonic blast, the close-quarters environment means you are almost guaranteed to be stunned, disoriented, and swarmed in seconds.

As I pushed through the tunnel, the audio design completely gave it away. The heavy, sightless shuffling of the Blind Screamer was getting closer.

The Play: Precision over Panic

Most teams make the mistake of immediately mag-dumping into a Screamer’s chest. Spoiler alert: they are heavily armored from the front, and shooting them just triggers their blood-curdling shout.

Here is exactly how the clip played out:

  • Building the Meter: Since you need a 10x combo to prime your execution meter, I quickly popped a couple of crawling grunts blocking the entryway.

  • The Sound Distraction: Blind Screamers track you entirely by audio. I tossed a bait grenade down a side pocket of the tunnel. The Screamer immediately sprinted toward the noise, completely turning its back to me.

  • The Stealth Approach: Holding my breath, I crouched-walked up behind it. If you run, they will instantly turn around and flail.

  • The Takedown: Once the prompt popped up, I hit the button to trigger the elite takedown animation. Watching my character drive a melee weapon right into its glowing yellow weak spot on its back to secure the instant-kill was incredibly satisfying.

Pro-Tip for Xbox Players: If you miss the stealth window and the Screamer charges, don’t panic. Use your Divine Blast special melee to stagger them, sidestep their clumsy charge, and open fire strictly on the yellow growth on their back.

The tension in this run was unreal. You can see the full Xbox gameplay video linked below to watch the distraction tactic work in real-time, right before the horde almost trapped me against the tunnel wall.
